I Don't Use It

I Don't Use It

I Don't Use It

You may wonder why I don’t use Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, Messenger or any other app you asked for.

It’s simple.

I care about my privacy, and you should too!

Trust me, I’m not weirdo :)

Privacy is normal and it is your human right.

The right to your privacy belongs to you.

Not to your friend, not to your parents, not to any company, not to anyone else. It is fully yours, and you get to decide about it.

Anyone taking it without your permission is taking a valuable right, and that's not okay.

I like to remain private. Imagine going to the first day at job and they know more about you than your own Mother because they paid $200 to some data broker to get all the info about you.

"Ah Mr.Wilson, quite a video game enthusiast aren't we? I hope this wouldnt affect your work performance."

It’s money. Any time you leave behind traces of your Internet history, it gets collected and sold as metrics for all different kinds of work. Someone is making money off of who you are and what you like/dislike so why wouldn’t I want to at least stop that?

Companies can use your data to make decisions about you, often without your knowledge. Get denied for a job or medical insurance ? Maybe an algorithm somewhere has decided you are an alcoholic. Could be wrong, could be based on your email or internet searches done out of curiosity or school research or about a relative's problem. No matter, now you're tagged with it and you'll never know.

There is *nothing* about privacy by default that should be viewed as weird, harmful, or niche.

It's not about today, or even about this year. For me, it's about not knowing what the world will be like in 10, 20 years from now, and not wanting to leave a trail that people in that future can look back on and use against me, even if today it's perfectly innocent.

It's none of your business what I do in my life.

“Privacy isn’t about something to hide. Privacy is about something to protect. And that’s who you are. That’s what you believe in. That’s who you want to become. Privacy is the right to the self. Privacy is what gives you the ability to share with the world who you are on your own terms.”
